Predator Barrier

What is a Predator Barrier?

A Predator Barrier is an adult (18 years of age or older) who goes into an online chat room and poses as a child, chatting with perverts. They prevent the perverts from interacting with real kids, thus creating a barrier between the predators and kids.

If you do Predator Barrier work, your main purpose is to take up as much of the pervert’s time as you can. You do not bust the pervert, or do any follow up investigation. Under no circumstances are you to meet with a pervert, ever.

Rules:

There are rules that you must follow if you are going to do this. These are very important to follow in case you end up turning your chat over to Law Enforcement (LE). If you do not follow these rules, then LE cannot take over your chat and bust the pervert.

I cannot stress this enough- you need to read all these rules and guidelines. Then, when you think you know all of it and are ready to start, read them again! Print this page out if you need to, it is very important that you do this the right way. If you don't set up your chat correctly then you will not have the info you need to go to LE.

~ Do not make first contact. The pervert must contact you first. Don’t worry; this will not be a problem. In fact, you will be shocked at how many perverts hit on you when you do absolutely nothing but sit and wait.

~ The pervert must be at least 19 years old, unless you are pretending to be 12 years old or younger. We recommend chatting with 19 year olds and above. Again, this will not be a problem. If you get an 18 year old or younger, just hit ignore.

~ You must have the perverts age and your age both in the text of the chat. You can ask him “a/s/l” or “asl” (age, sex, location).

~ Do not give out your information. Do not give the pervert your real name, address, or phone number. We will give tips on how to avoid this later on.

~ Do not investigate the pervert. You can take his phone number, address, or any other information. Save it, but do not use it or try to contact him in any way.

~ Do not do cyber sex with the pervert. If he wants to “get off” while talking to you, it’s a waste of time. He is probably someone who does not intend to meet with kids and those are the ones you want to chat with.

~ Pictures. You may get someone who wants to show you his naked body (or worse). If you do get pictures of the pervert, save them. You can avoid sending pictures to the pervert by saying something like, I don’t have any, or I don’t have a scanner or cam.

~ Do not say you are from Warriors For Innocence or that you are affiliated with us. You are a concerned citizen who is doing this on their own.

When to go to LE (Law Enforcement):

~ If a pervert sends you child pornography, you must go to LE.

~ If a pervert tells you he abused a child, then you must go to LE and report it.

~ You contact the LE in the area that the pervert is located, not the local LE where you are located.

There is always a very real possibility that you will chat with a pervert who will admit to abusing a child, or who will send you child pornography (cp, kp). If you go to LE, they will need your full name and ID. They will need your computer or at least a mirror of your hard drive (if they are able to do it). Be prepared before you start. If you do not want to go to LE, then do not do this. If you are not prepared to give up your computer for a short period of time, then do not do this.

You might want to consider getting an extra or older computer for Predator Barrier work. That way if you have to turn it over, you will still have your main computer available to you.

You can also refuse any pictures the pervert sends you. This would prevent you from receiving child porn. You can tell the pervert that you can’t open pictures because your Mom/Dad would find out and you would get in trouble. Or your Mom/Dad is in the next room and might look over and see. Don’t open anything the pervert sends you and don’t click on any attachments in any emails from him.

Create a Profile Page

We suggest that you create a Profile Page that lists all the details of your fake identity online. That way you will remember details later on. Often times a pervert will quiz you and ask you a question to make sure you’re who you say you are. We have a sample profile page that you can use if you want. You may end up with more than one persona and will need to keep them straight. A Profile Page will also help with this.

How do I start Predator Barrier?

~ First, sign up for Yahoo email. Make a profile. Use a fake name and a birth date that will make you at least 18 years old. If your profile is under 18, you will not be able to enter the chat rooms. Do not put a picture in your profile, you won’t need one. Go under “hobbies” and say that you are 12, 13, or 14 years old. You can list some hobbies that a typical teen would like.

~ Sign up for Yahoo Messenger. Once you do this, you need to go into “preferences” and enable archiving. You do this by clicking “yes, save all of my messages”. Make sure you do not click the “save them all, but clear them each time I sign out”. To read your chats, you go into “Contacts” and then click on “Message Archive”.

~ Go to a chat room.

~ You do not need to say anything in the chat room. The perverts will contact you by IM. Make sure that you do not make first contact. You must be contacted by the pervert first.

~ When a potential pervert contacts you by IM:

1- Turn on time stamps

To turn on time stamps: Go to the top of your IM window, there is a menu that says “view”. Click on view, then scroll down to “Timestamps”. You can also hit F2.

2- Take a screenshot of the beginning of the IM chat.

3- Take a screenshot and copy down the url of your profile and his profile at the time of initial contact.

To take a screenshot, press the “print screen” button, open a program like Paint, hit the control key and the "V" key. This is how you paste the image into Paint or any other program. Save this to your computer in a separate file that is named the same as the pervert’s screen name. That way you can find it later.

Reveal

When you have the pervert admitting his intent to have sex with you, that’s when you “reveal” yourself to him. Revealing means that you reveal that you are not a child, and you scare this guy so badly that he hopefully will stop doing this in the future. You tell him that you are going to contact LE- even though you are not going to.

Do not back down from the reveal. Don’t let the pervert think he’s getting off. He broke the law. He deserves it. You stated your age at the beginning of the chat, and so did he. That’s all there is to it. He solicited sex from a minor with intent to meet.

If the pervert claims to be LE working undercover, he’s lying. LE does not chat with minors or talk about sex with minors. They do what you are doing, the go after the perverts. Ask him for his name, badge #, station, and unit. Tell him you are going to report his screen name and that he impersonated the police to LE. This is a crime also.

It may take several days before you reveal to a pervert. Some perverts go right to sex and don’t waste any time. Some are more cautious and take time getting to know you and chatting with you before they go any further.

Tips

How to keep your information private:

Remember, you are a young boy or girl. You can always use Mom and/or Dad as an excuse not to give out information or not to do something. Phone number- I don’t have a cell phone, I can’t give you my home phone because my Mom will see that you called on caller ID. I can’t call you because it will show on our phone bill and Mom will know. I’m not at home right now.

Keep it simple:

You need to create a persona or a character that you want to be believed. I like to keep it simple. The less you have to remember, the easier it will be. I’m a girl living with my Mom- divorced from my Dad. Mom works odd hours so she can come home unexpectedly. This is a great way to get out of a conversation quickly, and a reason not to give your address/location. I say that I have no siblings. I only talk about one friend- my best friend.

Know the area you are supposed to live in:

Do your homework and make sure you know the schools, malls, and landmarks of the city you say you live in. You can always choose a location you are already familiar with. If not, go online and do your homework. You don’t want to be asked a question that you can’t answer. You don’t want your cover blown. You can always say that you are new to the area and don’t know a lot about it yet. But that may open the door for questions about where you moved from.

Ways to waste the pervert’s time:

Remember, your goal is to tie up the pervert and keep them away from real kids. Then reveal yourself to them and scare them into hopefully not doing this again. Ask him questions. If he tells you he’s into something, then ask him about it. Get him talking, waste a lot of time. People love to talk about themselves. Claim to be a young girl/boy who is also new to the chat rooms - maybe just figured out how to get on line in a chat without parents finding out. Ask the pervert to give you pointers and help you understand it all. That way it wastes his time and helps you too. It keeps the talk away from sex for a while too. Nice break.

How to get out of doing something:

The pervert may ask you to do something- call him, give info out, meet online when you won’t be available. A few ways to avoid that are- say you aren’t home, you’re at a friend/Grandma/relatives house online and can’t do whatever he wants. If you can’t meet with him online, tell him later that you were grounded and couldn’t use the computer. You’re sick. Oh no, your Mom just came home and she’s pissed at you and you gotta go.

Sample Reveals:

Feel free to use one of these or make up one of your own. In these samples there may be mention of pictures, phone numbers, etc. You should take the samples and change them to fit each individual chat that you have.

You have been speaking to an Online Monitor for child protection. All your identifying information and your IP have been logged and this chat log has been archived. This information will be forwarded to the local authorities of your region and the FBI.
Solicitation of a minor is a felony that includes fines, prison time and registration as a sex offender. Expect to be contacted by the appropriate authorities shortly.

When the age of whomever you are talking to is less than 18, you should terminate the conversation and save yourself the trouble for coming up with reasons why you shouldn't be arrested. They have a word that describes people who have no qualms about watching young girls be sexual, it's called PEDOPHILE.

In no way shape or form is it ok to view or even talk to kids about sex. That's a felony. Punishable by 6-30 years in state correctional facility and a $25,000 fine. Now say it with me: Ped*o*phile. Would you like me to use it in a sentence? The man who thought that it was ok to solicit children online will be known as a Ped*o*phile because his face and chat log were on the evening news when he was arrested.

Just wanted to say thanks for giving me this wonderfully incriminating chatlog that expresses your INTENT for sex with a minor, which by the way is ILLEGAL. You have also thoughtfully provided me with your IP, phone number and photo. This information WILL be turned over to authorities...

And while we are on the subject of you being an idiot, you may want to lay low and not chat up anymore minors, in case the authorities have nothing better to do than play mind games with you online. Who knows who is watching your actions and keystrokes. That is, unless you’d like to share a cell with Bubba. He’s looking for a new friend to play with. I’m sure he’ll like you just fine.

You have been speaking to an Online Monitor for child protection. All your identifying information and your IP have been logged and this chat log has been archived. This entire chat session and any identifying information have been recorded and retained. The chatlog in question will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities in your area. You are in violation of both local and Federal laws and while individual cases may vary, the preceding chatlog was found to contain inappropriate, lewd, and sexual advances both in intent and language with a minor. This information will be enough evidence to convict you. Expect law enforcement officials shortly after receiving this information. You should contact an attorney immediately. You may choose to turn yourself in ahead of your arrest to minimize embarrassment if you should be in the presence of family, friends, or co-workers at the time.

Chat Abbreviations -

Go here and scroll down. You'll have to wait for the 45 second countdown, then you can click on “Download File”. This will open a window that will allow you to choose to either open the Word document or save it on your computer. It’s an alphabetical list. You can hit Ctrl + f and it will bring up a search screen to type in any term to look for. Print this out or have it open on your computer while you are doing Predator Barrier work. That way if a pervert uses a chat abbreviation like, brb, how about f2f irl?- you’ll know what he’s saying.
